Walk 12 - Between the Vigi and the Nera

The upland stretching on th eedges of the Monte borders with the deep valleys of Vigi and Nera, joining at the “castle” of Cerreto di Spoleto. It was part of a difensive system, with the Montesanto and Mevale outposts, granting safety and peacefulness to the rural villages of the area.
It is the same peacefulness that is nowadays granted by the natural isolation, instead of the fortified buildings.

Our trip starti from the Vigi valley and reaches Montesanto, passing by the 'Acquapremula springs. We will reach the chapel of Madonna del Monte, standing where the three castels border, then we will descend to Mevale, in the Nera valley close to the confluence with another river, the Campiano.

The old leper hospita of San Lazzaro in Valloncello, founded in 1218 deserve a stop, and an extr awalk if you feel like it to reach the falls of "Lu Cugnuntu". After the old thermal baths and the sulphureous springs near Triponzo, we will climb up towards Cerreto di Spoleto.
