| Walk 11 - The
area around Sellano
The area around Sellano is quite different
from the rest of the Valnerina; the hills here
are more prominent, the valley not so deep; it
has favoured the presence of numerous settlements,
wether small villages or just isolated buildings.
We will go out to discover some peculiar aspects
of the rural architecture:
- we will visit the old water mills: the one in
Postignano on the Argentina torrent still in use,
the one in Sellano on the Vigi river and the Cammoro
and Orsano orsano mills on the Fauella stream;
- we will discover the defense buildings that
guarded the roads of Valnerina, Spoleto and Foligno:
the fortified “castle” of Postignano,
the ruins of Brigida and the castles of Camoro
and Orsano;
- along the path, we will discover the simple faith
of the shepards, that built small churches and
chapels that are still places of pilgrimage, such
as the cave of Beato Giolo or the Eremo di San
Paterniano;
- we will then stop in Villamagina or Montalbo
to experience a typical local activity: the production
of files and rasps, an art dating back many centuries,
probably introduced by a Franciscan friar. The
sparkling air will surely remind us it’s
time for a snack made of typical products from
a farm or restaurant.
