| Walk 9 - Travelling
down the Nera
Following the river, we weiil discover landscapes
of extraordinary beauty, yet you have to loook
at them through the eyes of friendship and kindness,
to discover and appreciate all the efforts of
the men that had to live with river for ages,
and took life from it. We can admire the stone
bridges that cross the river; visit the mills
that used its waters; wander around the narrow
streets of the old towns, from Ceselli to Scheggino,
from Castel San Felice to Piedipaterno and Borgo
Cerreto; we will walk into the beautiful churches
overlooking the area; we will feel the smell of
nature in the vegetation along the river, and
understand how deep the relationship between mankind,
landscape and the river is, and how it has shaped
life in this territory.
As if we did not see enough, we decided to look
from above at what we have just seen; we will
take the old road that runs across the Valnerina,
from Borgo Cerreto to Grotti, passing through
the Convent of Santa Maria di Costantinopoli,
the the villages Macchia, Meggiano and Paterno.
The landscape now is more open, the villages seem
to be guardwatching the gorges we just passed
. And as we admire the landscape, we will once
more be tempted by the fragrances of the cheese,
lentils, emmer wheat and most of all the truffle,
all produced in this area. We will be glad to
end our journey in one of the restaurants of the
area.
