| Walk 7 - From Valley
to valley.
It is ideal for landscape lovers, covering
a wide variety in a long walk. It will lead you
through open or closed spaces, civilized or wild,
but always bearing the signs of mankind. Forexample,
there is a huge difference between Cascia and
Monteleone as you approach from the narrow Corno
valley. While Cascia lays at the bottom of a valley,
Monteleone stands tall on the rocks. Whiile the
former mimics the city, the latter remains wisely
rural. Monteleoneis surrounded by isolated rural
buildings, rather than small villagees like Cascia.
Although an excellent pecorino is produced as
well, it’s the emmer wheat that i sthe typical
product of Monteleone.
The path then continues towards Cerreto, passing
through Poggiodomo. Much narrower than the Corno
valley, the Tessino one is much more bitter and
wild as well. On the steep slopes of Coscerno
you can stil see signs of the old cultivation
methods, and have a feel of what life was at that
time. Madonna della Stella sanctuary is one of
the most beautiful examples of medieval heremitages
that are easily found all over Valnerina. After
the stop at the sanctuary, we will continue towards
Rocchetta and Ponte. The valley of the Nera river
will bring us back to reality at the Borgo Cerreto, crossing.
It’s probably the desire to stay away from
everyday life that pushes us to stay in Pontealways
a bit longer.
