| Walk 4 - Castelluccio
and the Pian Grande
You shall not leave the Valnerina before you
climb up to Castelluccio, in the heart of the
National Park Monti Sibillini and admire one of
Italy’s most beautiful landscapes.
Take the road from Norcia to Forca Canapine, as
we gain altitude quickly, we will stop at Forca
del Piano. We will have an unforgettable landscape
in front of us: a large valley with the village
of Castelluccio on a little hill, and the massive
of the Monti Sibillini all around, with the Monte
Vettore (2476 m.) dominating the area . Before
we enter the endless green fields of Pian Grande,
with its pastureland, june flowers and tasty lentil
grown close to the village, we will get lost in
memories and the legend of della Sibilla.
Otherwise, we can just imagine the long travelling
teh shepards had to do each winter to reach the
pastures in Maremma. We will stop in Castelluccio,
that has retained some of the oldest traditions,
like writing down on the walls the main happenings
in the village, in an often very straightforward
dialect. Our itinerry could end with a descent
to Visso, stopping in Valleinfante di Castel Sant'A
ngelo on the Nera where, out of two “nostrils”
in the rock, the fresh waters of the Nera start
from.
