Walk 3 - Preci, between Valle Castoriana and Valle Oblita

Not far from Norcia there are two valleys that spread out: Campiana or Castoriana and Oblita, and where they meet stands the beautiful “castle” of Preci.

This si where today’s excursion will take you. The Abbey of S. Eutizio, the cradle of the Benedictine, was built by the Santi Eremiti Siriani, in a place where ancient pagan worships took place once.

The whole area hold rests of fortified walls, watch towers.. The seasonal migrations of the inhabitants to Tuscany contributed to the artistic heritage of the area, so you will have a chance to see some of the masterpieces of Arte Fiorentina. The Benedictine monks had started a surgery school in Preci in the 15th century, and it became world known. This art was then exported in Europes most important universities and Courts, bringing the wealth you can still see in the numerous palaces in Preci, Campi and Ancarano. The whole area is rich in waters and rivers, and you can even find trout farms. The pasture lands and sheep farming bring some of the tastiest varieties of pecorino.
